Bayer Leverkusen defender and former Liverpool captain Sami Hyypia announces his retirement at the age of 37. During his decade at Anfield Hyypia, a £2.5m signing from Dutch side Willem II in 1999, won the Champions League, UEFA Cup, two FA Cups, two League Cups and two European Super Cups.

In that same season he also featured in the heart of the defence to help them make it all the way to the Uefa Cup Final. And when the 6ft 3 Spaniard has played in that position for Villa, he has been well and truly outstanding.
