Scolari eyes quadruple
Luiz Felipe Scolari wants his star-studded Chelsea squad to challenge on all four domestic and European fronts this season.
The Blues are again expected to push Manchester United all the way in the Premier League title race, along with reaching the latter stages of the UEFA Champions League.
Chelsea reached two finals last season, but it ultimately proved a frustrating campaign as the West Londoners failed to add to their extensive trophy cabinet.
Roman Abramovich’s team have a new man at the helm this season in the shape of a World Cup-winning coach and Scolari wants his inherited squad to battle for every trophy.
Quadruple
“We have four competitions this season and I try to win all four,” said the former Brazil and Portugal national coach.
“It is the same for the players. It will be very difficult but we have the team for it, we have the players for it. Chelsea have also given me everything I have wanted.
“I try and give confidence to my players. They sometimes make mistakes but I tell them that this is normal as long as they train hard. If they do their best the rest is my problem.”
Key players
Scolari and co are currently impressing all on their pre-season tour of Asia and despite being in the job less than a month, the 59-year-old knows who to build his team around.
“I know who my key players are,” he continued.
“I have had 15 days with them and I know who is important for us to play more games than other players.
“You need to build a team around a few players in essential positions for important games and I now know who they.”
