NEW FOOTBALL SEASON IS ON THE HORIZON
Well with the new season looming ahead, can we dare to hope for such an exciting climax with champions and relegation issues being resolved on the final day. Could we even dream to have a closer fight at the top or just the 2 old warhorses going head to head.
With Big Phil Scolari now in the hot seat he will need to hit the ground running to out fox Sir Furious, if he can; will these be the only 2 contenders for the main prize on the day of reckoning.
Can the Gunners mount a sustained challenge this season or is the ‘alleged’ in fighting going to scupper their plans again with the clubs focus being more off the field than on.
What about Spain this summer? Always flattered to deceive; full of potential and promise until they stepped onto the big stage. Can Rafa emulate his countrymen and finally step up to the plate in a championship race or is their best hope going to be another cup.
After that the best the rest can hope for is to break into that top four and sneak into a Champions League place. Everton will have probably the best chance of that and it wouldn’t do Big Dave Moyes CV any harm with a potential job in the offing at Old Trafford in a couple of year’s time. Villa has also had a good year to stabiles under Martin O Neill and may pose a more potent threat this year (Has Gareth Barry gone yet). Spurs could be a surprise package but that will depend on what happens with Berbatov and Keane.
Mid table, the twilight zone, not really setting the world on fire, but far enough away from relegation to be putting your feet up from February. Blackburn who finished the season well has lost their manager, can Paul Ince get the same level of commitment out of the squad or are they likely to slip. Will Kevin Keegans Newcastle finally become a big club in the footballing sense to match the fans expectations or are the going to stay static, mid table along with Man City, West Ham, Portsmouth and Middlesbrough.
And finally the relegation zone. Who will go down, who will be the surprise package that will be sitting in the top half of the table after the first dozen or so games. Fulham for me have got what it takes to finish a lot further away from the relegation area than the did last year, they put together a superb run at the end of the season and really pulled the rabbit out of the hat, if Roy Hodgson can harness that spirit and commitment it should be a lot easier on the fans blood pressure than last year. The three who came up look the most likely candidates for the drop, West Brom are probably the best equipped to stay but the other 2 are most likely to be like rabbits in the headlights and come close to Derby’s record from last year. Although Sunderland, Bolton and Wigan are a good shout to give them a run for their parachute payments.
Who knows? BRING IT ON.
