Manchester City enjoy home advantage to finish the job against Faroe Island opponents EB/Streymur.

Manchester City will face Faroese Club EB/Streymur in the second leg of their UEFA Cup qualifying round tie. City were comfortable 2-0 victors away from home in the 1st leg and will want to complete their victory and prepare themselves for a grueling season ahead in arguably the most competitive league in world football.

Their little known opponents will need to improve dramatically if they wish to progress to the next round, but will find it difficult to travel to the Stadium of Light and upset a much more experienced side.

Manchester City started their last season in spectactular fashion. With former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson at the helm, the team won their first three Premiership matches (including a win in the local derby against cross-town rivals Manchester United) and enjoyed 10 consecutive home wins before a run of inconsistent form and disappointing performances saw them finish the league in ninth.

Luckily, the club will still qualify for the UEFA Cup via FIFA Fair Play Rankings, but Mark Hughes will replace Eriksson as manager, despite an outcry from fans in support of the Swede. The club has been known to be a quality side in the Premiership but has not won a major trophy since lifting the FA Cup in 1981.

However, their position in last year’s league is vast improvement from their dismal 14th place the year before, in which they set a record for least number of goals scored at home by a club, with only 10. Hughes will be hoping to end the team’s trophy draught this season, and perhaps it will be the UFEA Cup the team lifts.
